He Was Better at Flirting in Person

Chandigarh | F, 24

His Hinge prompts were terrible. One said his biggest strength was “being available for food.” Another said he was looking for someone who could tolerate his terrible jokes.

I almost swiped left.

Then we met.

He was funny in person, listened properly, and didn't spend the entire date trying to impress me with his salary. We split the bill, walked around Sector 17, and ended up sharing a plate of chaat.

When he dropped me near my place, he asked if he could hold my hand.

I said yes.

It was ridiculous how much that small thing affected me. No grand gesture, no expensive dinner. Just his thumb brushing over my knuckles while we walked.

A few days later, I went to his place. We cooked instant noodles because neither of us could make anything respectable, then sat on the sofa watching a film we barely followed.

He leaned over to kiss me, paused, and asked, “Still okay?”

I smiled. “You ask that every time.”

“And?”

“And I like that you do.”

The rest of the evening was a blur of kisses, teasing, and me repeatedly stealing his hoodie while he pretended to be annoyed.

The surprising part was what happened afterward.

He didn't suddenly become distant. He didn't disappear for three days. He texted me the next morning to ask whether I wanted breakfast.

Apparently, the bar was underground, and this man had brought a shovel.
