I (F29) have a secret about my sex life that I’ve never been able to explain to anyone, not even my boyfriend (M32).
I’ve always been attracted to situations that feel a little wrong. Not illegal, not anything I’d ever want to happen to someone in real life, but the kind of scenarios that would make most people uncomfortable if they knew what was going through my head.
It started with romance novels when I was younger. The more forbidden the relationship, the more I found myself drawn into it. Then it moved into fantasies about strangers, power dynamics, jealousy, and situations where I had absolutely no control over what happened next.
The weird part is that I’m actually a pretty ordinary person. I work a normal job, have a close circle of friends, and spend most of my weekends watching Netflix or ordering food. Nobody would ever guess what I read when I’m alone.
My boyfriend knows I like things a little intense. He thinks it’s just a preference for adventurous sex, and honestly, I’ve let him believe that because explaining the full extent of my fantasies feels impossible.
Sometimes I read stories that leave me feeling genuinely embarrassed afterward. Not because I want those things to happen in real life, but because I wonder what it says about me that I find them exciting in fiction.
And then there’s the guilt.
I can be lying next to my boyfriend after a perfectly normal, loving evening together, scrolling through my phone and reading something that feels like it belongs to an entirely different version of me.
It makes me question whether there’s something wrong with me or whether I’m just another person with thoughts that don’t fit neatly into the image I have of myself.
I’ve considered telling him everything, but I’m terrified that once I say it out loud, he’ll never look at me the same way again.
So I keep it to myself.
I love him. I’m happy with him. I don’t want to replace our relationship with some fantasy.
I just wish I understood why my imagination goes places that the rest of me would never want to follow.
Has anyone else ever felt this disconnected from their own fantasies?
